What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are brief summaries of the core beliefs of Blue Ridge Community Church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our ministry and teaching flow out of the Scriptural Truths of these doctrines (2 Timothy 3:16-17) . You can download our full Statement of Faith at the link below.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and the only infallible guide to faith and practice. We believe that Scripture is without error in it's original manuscripts and has been faithfully preserved in our translations today.

God

There is one God: infinite, eternal, almighty, and perfect in holiness, truth, and love. In the unity of the godhead there are three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, co-existent, coequal, co-eternal.

The Father

God the Father is the Creator of heaven and earth. By his word and for his glory, he freely and supernaturally created the world from nothing. . He rules over all and is the only Sovereign. He is faithful to every promise, works all things together for good to those who love Him.  He made man for fellowship with himself, and intended that all creation should live to the praise of his glory.

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creation.

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.

Jesus

Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, was the eternal Word made flesh, supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. He was perfect in nature, teaching, and obedience. He is fully God and fully man. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God and is the only way to the Father and life eternal.

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers the free gift of eternal life to all who repent of their sins and follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone by His work alone.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Through the proclamation of the gospel he persuades men to repent of their sins and confess Jesus as Lord.  We believe the Holy Spirit is God and actively at work in our lives and the world today. He indwells all believers, works in them for the purposes of sanctification and witness. All the gifts of the early church are available and active in the church today.

The Church

We believe in the importance of the local church in our community and world. The Church exists to worship and glorify God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It also exists to serve him by faithfully doing his will in the earth. This involves a commitment to see the gospel preached and churches planted in all the world for a testimony. The ultimate mission of the Church is the making of disciples through the preaching and witness of the gospel.

Resurrection

Through His bodily resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ has been given the preeminent and exclusive title of King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He will one day return to earth to judge the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.
